FLASH MOBS:
BEHIND THE MOVEMENT
This short-form documentary was produced as part of a Master's Creative Thesis Project completed in the Broadcast Electronic Communication Arts (BECA) program at San Francisco State University.
I became interested in Flash Mobs in 2013 and decided to document the story of a local flash mob group "Bay Area Flash Mob" (BAFM), while studying the motivations for sponatenous collective action. The documentary took 6 months to make and includes interviews with collective action experts, falsh mob organizers, and the proclaimed inventor of the "flash mob" itself, Bill Wasik.
This was the first film I ever made, and I took on every role from camera to editing. I'm currently working on a new version of this documentary for film festival submission, there's some new footage and newly edited sections of the original film.
